About this deal

Then I’ll be appearing and signing at the Tring Book Festival on the 11th November – perfectly timed as it’s also the release date for ‘We’ll Meet Again’. I didn’t know until about two thirds of the way through the author’s history in dancing and I love how he weaves it into the story through the use of one of the main characters.

He has appeared on every series since its inception in 2004, and it was announced in 2021 that he would become a permanent judge on the show, replacing Bruno Tonioli. I'm not sure that the stave format of Pigeonhole suited this book, with it's huge cast of characters. Lots to look forward to, dates for our diaries, and a good book to whisk us all away this coming wintertime – sounds perfect! From the glamour of the ballroom with Archie Adam’s music playing for all the guests to enjoy, whilst watching the enchanting seasoned dancers of the Buckingham Hotel waltz away, versus the harsh juxtaposition of outside the hotel doors, where the war ridden streets of London awaits full of looters, air raid sirens, bombs and last but especially not least the brave volunteers for the war effort. His debut album reached the Top 20, and his annual sell-out tours have been thrilling dance fans in theatres nationwide for over a decade. I’m sure you’ve all been tuned in to the news with regard to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, and how it’s escalating once again across the country.

Anton Du Beke – the King of Ballroom, 'Strictly Come Dancing' royalty, and household name – is one of this generation's all-round entertainers. It’s September 1940 and with bombs raining down every night, the staff do a magnificent job of keeping the guests happy, even if it’s down in the bunkers. With young men signing up to fight and aspersions being cast on other members of our wonderfully eclectic cast, there are some that will suffer more than others. It’s the fourth in the Buckingham Hotel series of books and although I haven’t read the previous three, it didn’t spoil my enjoyment. There is still the glitz and glamour of the Great Ballroom but there are also the harsh realities of the early days of World War 2.I can’t begin tell you how thrilling it was to meet so many of you at these events in previous years, such a joy – I’m so looking forward to having that opportunity again with ‘We’ll Meet Again’; do please come along – or log on – if you can! She loves and supports him but is heartbroken at the thought of them being apart, and the dangers he will face.

I feel at a slight disadvantage here as I haven’t read the first books in this series and so was not really invested in the characters. He continued: “After I did the first one, and we decided what we were going to do next, and decided to do a continuing story, well, the world becomes your oyster! Well, my loves, I so hope you’re all looking after yourselves and keeping safe with everything else’s that’s going on. We simply can’t wait for theatres to reopen and to be able to entertain you once more… in the meantime, enjoy this sneak peek into the glamorous glittering ‘ Showtime‘ world. I loved the way he brings his love of dancing in as the main focus to start with and then with the beginning of WWII how it then becomes jeopardized as the staff and dancers go off to war but still runs right through the book. This has been two years in the making, plans have been afoot… but we’re now all set to bring a fabulous evening’s entertainment to a theatre near you!

Having said that it has inspired me to catch up with the previous ones in the series so I now have two of them in my ‘to be read’ pile! The contrast between the glamour of the hotel and the not so glamour of the war was obvious, one is full of beauty and grandeur, one full of horrifying moments and dreams of better times. That mix of society along with life outside of the hotel during word war II, it really gave depth to the historical setting of this book. On 30 March 2017, his son George and daughter Henrietta were born, announced with an Instagram post. I thought this series had ended as after Book 5 we had the authors new series appear, but no Book 6 then arrived…. In 2018, he realised his boyhood ambition and published the first in a series of bestselling novels set in the 1930s world of the exclusive Mayfair hotel, The Buckingham. Learn the American Smooth — Cha Cha Cha — Foxtrot — Quickstep — Rumba — Tango — Waltz — you’ll find all these and more in my Elevenses With Anton series… then have a go at Fit At 50 if you’re looking for a home workout to try!
