About this deal

Whilst there are fun moments, a lot of this book is like a history lesson which doesn't interest me too much. This is the dynamic that this story explores and I think it's fair to say that there is an evident mutual respect between the two here. Gorgeous colors from Alex Sinclair; he matches Lee’s finishes very well with gently crosshatched highlights (a very nice touch!

While I was really hoping it all came down to a little, "When Batman's away, Alfred will play" type of Internet activity, it seems that the computer and Bruce himself, are infected with the Colossus Virus. Leaning back and letting the virus do its work, then swooping into Gotham and crushing Batman would have been a lot easier and practical for Bane. This week, all four issues of Batman: Europa are finally being released as a hardcover (or digitally for your Kindle). In trying to keep ahead of each other both men have constantly been forced to improve and as a result have become more than they ever would have been alone.

Europa takes us to various major cities in Europe, and there’s some great historical discussion from both characters’ perspectives. Seeing Batman and Joker battling mechanical men together in snow-laden Prague is amazing especially when the fight goes to the Old Jewish Cemetery. Superior Spider-Man artist Giuseppe Camuncoli (who also does all of the layouts) draws the second issue which has my favourite art in the book. I liked how we learn a bit about the character of each city throughout and how parts of each could be mistaken for the fictional home of Batman, Gotham City. I get why it is that way though as the Colossus virus is weakening Batman and causing his vision to dim, especially as they’re in the Paris sewers anyway.

Matteo Casall ve Brain Azzarello'nun yazdığı, Guiseppe Camuncoli, Jim Lee, Diego Lattore, Gerald Parel'in çizdiği eser Türkçe'ye Hasan Süpürgeci tarafından çevrilmiş.

Written by Matteo Casali (CATWOMAN) and Brian Azzarello (DARK KNIGHT III: THE MASTER RACE), BATMAN: EUROPA features art by superstar Jim Lee (JUSTICE LEAGUE) as well as European comics artist superstars Giuseppe Camuncoli (Spider-Man), Diego Latorre and Gerard Parel. Batman Europa gets the full cinematic treatment in this opening salvo of a story that’s going to crisscross the continent as Batman and Joker team-up after clashing here in “Berlin”. However it does differ and i loved the artwork, how erratic it becomes as the virus begins to spread and batman is hallucinating and joker is doing his best to support the guy, by support i mean torment the ever living shit out of him, but y'know in an endearing way. While isolated, it is a truly unique and fascinating style, but within the story, it made for an overly-ambitious, messy and chaotic experience.

I think it is fair to say that although these two are sworn enemies and will forever be, they need each other. The story is trying to answer the question of whether Batman will sacrifice himself to stop the Joker. It struck me as if this was supposed to be a plot for Hush and they kind of crammed Bane in there last minute to give it some stupid twist that makes zero sense. The Bat and the clown must work together, to find who did this to them and of course to find the cure.

The artwork though is the real star of the book, as it was always meant to be, and that’s the reason to check this one out. This is a strong marriage of the medium in which Lee’s pictures are worth all the words that we don’t need in the first place. I also greatly enjoyed the twist of forcing Batman and the Joker into working together, almost like a twisted buddy-cop plot.Batman and the Joker are both infected with the same virus, given a time limit they are forced to work together to find the cure and whoever it was that infected them. I loved it, some are gonna hate this i know that but i just love when it's just batsy and joker winding the shit out of each other and being stuck together and i mean you could cut the homoerotic tension with a knife in this and it's soooo good. I think this is a bit of a shame as the Arkham City game has used a similar story since then so comparisons are obviously going to be made.
