About this deal

After using it for a few months as my main travel bag, I am extremely thankful that F-Stop asked Shotkit to review the Tilopa and let me keep it. Having a bag that you can carry your camera fully set up in makes life a lot easier and production shoots faster.

Unzipping the pocket reveals a mesh pocket on the lid flap and a pair of fleece-lined pockets that are great for sunglasses or even circular photography filters if you don’t want to put them in a case. The redesigned back panel now features welded pockets with magnetic closures, card slots to offer you a new quality organization for your essentials. The components of the harness are made from the known aeronautics T6 aluminium used in parachutes or aircraft suits, so that the combination of their exceptional strength and ultra light weight. Like I mentioned at the beginning, I honestly didn’t see a bag like this being something I would want to use, let alone need.

If you plan on hiking all day with an Ajna, I recommend looking at the Medium Slope ICU as your best combination. All bags in f-stops' Mount I cannot imagine any hiker in any part of the world overnighting off the beaten path with only 50 litres of gear – certainly not in South Africa. For outdoor photographers it will be the Mountain Series in which there is a choice of 5 backpacks ranging in volume from the 32litre Lotus all the way up to the massive 80litre Shinn, each available in a choice of 3 colours . The bag has an aluminium frame which is what makes it so comfortable, but also keeps it rigid and allows it to sit upright on the base which is made of a more durable material than the rest of the bag, most other bags I have had started to rip from the bottom, but the Tilopa’s base is designed to take a beating!Without a doubt, the Cypress Green Tilopa DuraDiamond is one of the best-looking camera bags on the market.

If I were going on a big photo shoot and needed to bring all my gear in one bag, I’d use the XL ICU. The internal frame of the Tilopa is one of the reasons it carries heavy weights so well, but the height of this frame is also why it won’t fit into most carry-on baggage cages at the airport. The majority of the volume difference between these two bags comes from the size of their front pockets. Even with a tripod strapped to the outside, the bag is still compact and well balanced, offering all the performance and control that you would expect from a first-rate walking bag.In the F-Stop Mountain Series, the most obvious alternative to the Tilopa 50L DuraDiamond is the Ajna 37L DuraDiamond. Currently I carry a Canon 5D Mark3 body, a 16-35mm, 24-70mm, 70-200mm, two Canon speed lights, radio flash transmitter, batteries and other miscellaneous gear. The most obvious change, is the DuraDiamond material, proprietary to f-stop for which the bags have been named. On the sides of the pack there are expandable side zipper pockets for longer items like a water bottle or an extra pair of pants. With my load out full to the gills and a carbon fiber tripod with heavy video head, I was still comfortable.
