Julie Garwood (1944--2023) was the author of numerous New York Times bestsellers, including Fire and Ice, Shadow Music, Shadow Dance, Murder List, Killjoy, Mercy, Heartbreaker, Ransom, and Come the Spring. I wanted to talk about how you structured the book around these three characters who love a missing person. I’ll break it down for you so we can get a clear idea of what we’re doing, including our objectives and our goals. As Nick and Laurent fall in love, the baddie spirals out of control, even if it was all for show, at least at first. All I kept thinking was that I hope Netflix (or some other TV company) picks this one up, it would make a great series.
Seventeen years after falling from a stolen car into a remote northern town, Billie Jean Fontaine is still an outsider. What intrigues me are the darker corners of ourselves that we cannot explain to others, let alone to ourselves, when we lose all logic, all morality, and become kind of rudderless inside a spell of love. Heartbreaker is as much about loneliness, isolation and power as it is about the dangers of love and the lengths that we will go to protect those whom we love.Heartbreaker ends with a lead in to the next book which looks to feature Lady Imogen, the Belle who’s a chemistry (and explosives) expert, and Detective Inspector Thomas Peck.
