It is great for those who want a nice lego model of a hand, and for those who want to try and draw or paint a hand. Some things require the hand to be sideways, generally in this case I have the flat side on the inside and curved side on the outside of the minifig. The photo above is what, to me, is the proper orientation of the minifigure hand when it is empty and holding basic utensils, but sometimes I use the hands the other way to get a different grip on a tool or to achieve a certain position. Given that the pinky is shorter, and that the thumb is further away from the pinky, I would think that the "fatter" end makes more sense to be the "top" of the hand (pointing up/forward). With the exception for monkeys, LEGO hands have never been used for any other purpose by LEGO besides being hands for minifigures. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice.

The loose LEGO is amazing, contains so many different elements for anyone bulking out their own collection. The model can be put into a wide variety of realistic hand positions, such as forming a fist, holding up any number of fingers (4 is pictured), snapping, performing the Jedi mind-trick from Star Wars, or even holding small objects like a pencil or a minifigure (no, these wouldn't be included :D). Visit our Minifigure Weapons section for a great range of firearms, shields, and weapons to ensure your minifigure is never caught off guard! It seems that having the large side up when they are holding a tool means that tool is 'active', but when the hands are upside down the tool becomes 'passive'. The pictures really don't do it justice; the articulation is pretty impressive and fun to mess with in person, and I think this model would be a great, eye-catching addition to anyone's desktop. Also, I made a left hand because I'm left-handed, but you could just switch a couple pieces around to put the thumb on the other side.

This model acts as a tool to help understand the structural makeup of the palm and achieves this in very few pieces. An idea for the finished set would be to include several different colored sets of those panels so people could change the final look of the hand - dark red, dark blue, silver and gold. That's the typical orientation, because the wider parts represents the longer fingers and the thumb (supposedly, first time I consciously think about it). but I've occasionally seen pictures, and sometimes official Lego ones, that have the hands turned the other way. The color of the plates really doesn't matter, and I think it would look better in a metallic silver. It is used to hold weapons (such as the Part x1740), objects and tools (such as a cup) or LEGO bricks. Although many different types of hands are used today, the yellow hand remains a standard for the Town/ City Themes and other non-movie based original LEGO Themes.Experiment by adding different materials to the Robot Hand for a better and safer grip that also causes less damage. Sometimes an accessory just looks better or can be better positioned relative to the mouth or eyes of a minifig when you turn the hand around. Minifigure hands have appeared in every set that contains a LEGO minifigure, which means it has appeared in almost every LEGO set since 1978, when it was created. Just look at every official lego box showing the minifigs, the hands have always been in that orientation.
