About this deal

The dark foliage around it is Physocarpus Diabolo which is gorgeous all summer, and at this time of the year has very pretty seed heads.

Growing in pots and in the ground, this lovely pink chrysanthemum puts on a reliable autumn display every year.uk also known for its Walkers Daffodil Collection which won 26 consecutive gold medals at Chelsea Flower Show and numerous Premier awards at Harrogate Spring Show over the decades. Some flowered at Christmas, but I held some pots back in the cold potting shed and brought them out a week apart so that I could have flowers for vases right through to the end of a March.

I hope you’ve enjoyed viewing these beautiful flowers and have got some ideas for future floristry projects.Joan particularly loved creating flower arrangements for the chapel and her husband Keith played the organ for every Sunday service and for weddings and funerals. The carers said the couple were their favourites, and I’m sure it was because Joan and Keith tried to be as little trouble as possible -and there was always chocolates, biscuits and cake for them. Cuttings will root within two to three weeks and then I’ll put each cutting in a 9cm pot in gritty compost.

I’m inspired by Georgie at Common Farm flowers who encourages us to join in her daily 30-stem challenge. On the other side of the potting shed is the renovated orangery containing many exotic plants including this white datura known as angels trumpets. Really, if they can cope with all that, I think they will stand firm and strong for the summer display. Snowdrops come from Easton Walled Gardens, Hodsock Priory and National Garden Scheme open garden days. Admittedly, these are made from plastic, but I’ve had mine for 6 or 7 years so far, and treated carefully, they will last a long time.In amongst my cut flowers, I grow vegetables such as peas, climbing beans, courgettes, sweet corn and beetroot. I’ve rescued a few, utterly helpless and disorientated, and set them upon a patch of wild primroses. With the storm coming from the south east, the westerly edge of our wood was weirdly still and silent, and this is where our little flock gathered. I ran out into the garden during a brief spell of calm and sunshine to capture the garden, and give me something cheerful to reflect on over the coming cold, dark months.
